The ODU contains RF circuitry with full band tuning range. The ODU receives DC power from the Indoor Unit ("IDU"), which it connects to via a single coaxial cable that carries signal and power. Coax type is RG-8 and maximum cable distance is 1,000' (ft.).

The ODU is mounted to the antenna using four latches (see "ODU Attachment to Antenna"). When more than one ODU shares a common (dual-feed) antenna the ODUs are remotely mounted and connected to the antenna by a 3' (typical) flexible waveguide section (see "Dual ODU Mount").

ODUs are also remotely mounted for off-the-shelf antennas that do not have fittings for direct attachment.
